Campervan conversion cost calculator
Choose the vehicle, the build level and the big system items. The calculator shows the range: budget parts at the low end, new branded parts at the prices from the studio parts catalogue at the top, and where the money goes.
The calculator needs JavaScript. In the studio you can run the same numbers with your own floor plan.
Opens without signing up, the van stays in your browser.
How the calculator works
It starts from the studio’s suggested build for the chosen vehicle. Basic means bed, kitchen with cool box, small battery, water containers, no windows and no fixed heater. Solid adds a compressor fridge, two windows, a roof vent, solar, a lithium battery with DC-DC charger, tanks and a diesel heater. High-end is the studio’s full suggestion with bathroom, lift bed, roof air conditioner and hot-water heating.
The top of the range uses new branded parts and the guide prices from the studio parts catalogue: furniture by size, windows, roof, water and systems, plus insulation, lining, floor and basic electrics by the length of the load space.
The bottom of the range uses budget parts: simple brands, plywood furniture, some second-hand. Depending on the area that is 40 to 60 per cent of the catalogue price; you save most on systems and the basic fit-out, least on windows and the roof.
Type of build: DIY counts materials only. A partial build with a professional costs 1.6 times as much in the calculator, a professional converter 2.6 times, for labour and margin.
Not included: tools, inspection and wrong purchases. Add a 15 to 20 per cent reserve. Tick the box to add the vehicle itself at its new price from the catalogue.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a campervan conversion cost?
For DIY materials, without the vehicle: basic about CHF 4,000 to 9,000, solid about CHF 10,000 to 20,000, high-end and off-grid CHF 20,000 to 40,000 and more. With new branded parts each level sits at the top end or above; for a long high-roof panel van about CHF 15,000, 22,000 and 45,000.
Why does the calculator show a range?
Because the same build costs very different amounts depending on the parts. A lithium battery, a diesel heater or a window comes as a budget version and as a branded part with warranty and service. The low end shows what budget parts achieve, the top end what new branded parts cost.
What is the biggest cost?
Usually the systems: with branded parts, battery, heater and inverter quickly add up to CHF 5,000 to 10,000. Then come the basic fit-out, furniture and windows. The calculator breaks it down by area for your choices.
Is a DIY conversion worth it?
Financially, yes: a professional converter costs about 2.6 times the materials in the calculator. In return you need roughly 200 to 800 hours, tools and space. The 230 V installation, gas and the inspection belong in the hands of a qualified professional.
